Les tunneliers sont les machines les plus couramment utilisées pour le creusement de tunnels urbains. Les dommages aux structures situées sur le tracé du tunnel pendant ou après le creusement du tunnel constituent l’un des risques les plus importants. Dans les fouilles de tunnels urbains, qui sont généralement creusées dans des conditions de sol faibles et difficiles, on utilise des machines fonctionnant selon la méthode de l’équilibre des pressions de la terre. Ces machines empêchent le mouvement vers l’intérieur du front de taille du tunnel et contrôlent l’ampleur du tassement en appliquant une pression sur le front de taille du tunnel. La question la plus importante ici est de déterminer la quantité de pression à appliquer sur le front de taille du tunnel. Il existe de nombreuses formules largement acceptées utilisées pour le calcul de la pression frontale et ces formules tentent généralement de limiter les tassements au sol en utilisant des paramètres. Dans cette étude, une nouvelle formule a été développée. Cette nouvelle formule calcule la pression de front que l’EPB doit appliquer au front de taille du tunnel afin d’éviter d’endommager une structure située sur le tracé et dans la zone qui sera affectée par l’excavation du tunnel, au lieu d’empêcher uniquement les tassements en surface.
