Der israelisch-palästinensische Konflikt hat nicht am 7. Okto- ber 2023 begonnen. Er dauert schon seit über hundert Jahren an. Er begann mit der Geburt des Zionismus. Der Zionismus wurde als Reaktion auf einen besonders schweren Angriff auf die russischen Juden im Jahr 1881 geboren. Die zionistische Lö- sung sah die Schaffung eines unabhängigen jüdischen Staates in Palästina vor, der die Vertreibung der einheimischen Bevöl- kerung erfordern würde. Die Zionisten waren säkulare euro- päische Juden und wussten, dass ihr Ziel nur mit Gewalt erreicht werden konnte. Der zionistische Staat, der ihnen vor- schwebte, war den europäischen Mächten ihrer Zeit nachemp- funden. Die zionistische Bewegung wurde stets von einer großen Weltmacht (und der westlichen Welt im Allgemeinen) unterstützt - zunächst von Großbritannien und dann von den Vereinigten Staaten, die beide ihre eigenen strategischen Ziele verfolgten, ohne sich wirklich um das jüdische Volk zu küm- mern.
