Bachelorarbeit aus dem Jahr 2013 im Fachbereich BWL - Bank, Börse, Versicherung, Note: 13, Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Mehr als fünfzig Jahre Kapitalstrukturforschung liegen zurück, als Modigliani/Miller (1958) mit ihrem Irrelevanztheorem der Kapitalstruktur den Anbeginn der modernen Finanzierungsforschung begründeten. Seit jeher hat die Frage nach der optimalen, wertmaximierenden Kapitalstruktur etliche Theorien zutage gebracht, die auf mögliche Erklärungsansätze des unternehmerischen Finanzierungsverhaltens abstellen und die Friktionen wie Steuern, Konkurskosten oder Informationsasymmetrien aufzeigen. Obwohl Konsens darüber besteht, dass die Kapitalstruktur, anders als Modigliani/Miller postulierten, nicht irrelevant ist, existiert kein ganzheitliches Modell, das alle empirischen Beobachtungen erklären könnte. Am Beispiel der Trade-off- und Pecking-Order-Theorie, die das Grundgerüst der theoretischen wie empirischen Kapitalstrukturforschung bilden, ist das Ziel dieser Arbeit zu erörtern, ob die jeweiligen postulierten Annahmen in der Realität Gültigkeit besitzen und welche Einflussfaktoren maßgeblich auf die Kapitalstruktur wirken. Anschließend wird der primären Frage nachgegangen, inwieweit die Kapitalstruktur als exogene Variable die Performance börsennotierter Aktiengesellschaften erklärt und ob daraus ein strategisches Instrument abgeleitet werden kann. Neben entwickelten Märkten wird der Zusammenhang auf sich entwickelnden Märkten beleuchtet, um etwaige Divergenzen aufzuzeigen.Börsennotierte Aktiengesellschaften bilden den empirischen Untersuchungsgegenstand, da sie hohen Publizitätspflichten unterliegen und demnach transparent und regelmäßig Daten bereitstellen, die eine akkurate Bewertung ermöglichen. Weiterhin reflektiert die Marktbewertung der Unternehmen im Idealfall eine faire Bewertung nach Einschätzung von Analysten und Investoren.
