Den analyserar också grundläggande förhållningssätt för de val som ligger bakom olika sätt att sköta bisamhällen. Bisamhällets vaxkakor anses numera vara mycket mer än bara superorganismens skelett. Exempel ges där naturliga vaxkakor är utgångspunkten för biodling som mer respekterar honungsbinas natur genom att tillåta dem uttrycka sina artspecifika egenskaper. Bland de kupor som baserar sig på naturlika vaxkakor, presenterar författaren Èmile Warrés vertikala topplist kupa som ett praktiskt och ekonomiskt alternativ till ramkupor. Boken innehåller även konstruktionsritningar och moderna bivänliga tips på hur de kan skötas.
