Alors que la science utilise souvent des méthodes pour tenter d’expliquer les observations d’un large éventail de phénomènes, les créationnistes utilisent la foi dans les textes de la Bible à la même fin. Une grande partie des découvertes scientifiques en biologie, cosmologie, géologie et physique (pour ne citer que quelques spécialités) sont catégoriquement rejetées. Il est intéressant de noter qu’aux États-Unis, où se trouvent plusieurs des instituts scientifiques les plus avancés du monde, le créationnisme attire un grand nombre d’adeptes. D’autres pays sont touchés de la même manière. Les créationnistes invitent les scientifiques à abandonner quelques siècles d’études sérieuses sur de nombreux phénomènes pour adopter la foi en des choses dont la science a montré qu’elles étaient des légendes.
