Construir la periferia: Procesos, mecanismos y derechos en la ciudad de borde plantea una aproximación crítica al proceso de construcción de la ciudad y las relaciones establecidas entre las distintas dimensiones económicas, políticas, simbólicas, territoriales y los actores que ocupan posiciones diferenciadas en la reproducción de sus vidas. La construcción del espacio, entendida como parte de la reproducción social, ha sido examinada desde la perspectiva de la diferenciación socioespacial del territorio.De esta manera, la mirada planteada pone en cuestionamiento los abordajes clásicos de los temas y problemas urbanos, señalando que los mismos no observan contextualmente a la ciudad y, en ese sentido, los aportes realizados hasta el momento son escasos y poco efectivos para intentar solucionar problemáticas urbanas que se presentan cada vez con mayor intensidad, complejidad y expansión.Comprender las relaciones de reproducción social en el territorio implica adentrarse en las lógicas estructurales que orientan la reproducción del capital. Y en ese proceso participan conjuntamente diferentes actores sociales que modifican las articulaciones entre espacio y sociedad, estableciendo condiciones particulares para la construcción de un territorio que se va configurando de acuerdo a una serie de variables que dependen de la coyuntura. Este enfoque aporta argumentos para una explicación sobre la estructuración del territorio en las últimas décadas.
