La maggior parte delle famiglie in tutto il mondo tiene a portata di mano farmaci per vari motivi, tra cui l’uso in caso di emergenza, il trattamento di malattie acute e croniche e l’uso futuro previsto. L’infezione o la paura di contrarre la COVID-19 nell’attuale pandemia potrebbero aumentare la conservazione dei farmaci in casa. Pertanto, questo studio si proponeva di valutare la prevalenza della conservazione dei farmaci in casa e i fattori associati nell’Etiopia sud-occidentale durante l’epidemia di COVID-19.Un’indagine trasversale sulle famiglie è stata condotta dal1° febbraio al30 maggio 2022. I dati sull’entità della conservazione, sulle condizioni di conservazione, sul loro stato attuale, sui metodi di smaltimento, tra gli altri, sono stati raccolti attraverso interviste strutturate e osservazioni. Lo studio attuale ha rivelato un’alta prevalenza di conservazione domestica dei farmaci; pertanto, per ridurre o eliminare le conseguenze negative della conservazione dei farmaci a casa, è necessario rivedere la catena di utilizzo dei farmaci e offrire una formazione a livello di comunità sulle corrette tecniche di conservazione e smaltimento dei farmaci, anche istituendo programmi di ritiro.
