Lo studio è stato condotto da maggio a novembre 2012 presso la Stazione Sperimentale Cascata di Embrapa Clima Temperado, Pelotas, RS. L’obiettivo era valutare l’effetto delle fonti nutrizionali organiche sulla crescita, lo sviluppo e la produzione del cavolo 'Coração de Boi'. È stato utilizzato un disegno a blocchi randomizzato, con cinque repliche e sette trattamenti. L’esperimento è stato condotto per fertilizzare il cavolo con concimi ottenuti da diversi rifiuti organici, con i seguenti trattamenti: controllo; lettiera di pollame bollita; letame bovino bollito; humus liquido; lettiera di pollame solida; letame bovino solido; humus solido. Sono state valutate le seguenti variabili: crescita della pianta; ciclo; compattezza; area fogliare; indice di area fogliare; massa fresca, massa secca e contenuto di DM delle foglie esterne e della testa del cavolo; lunghezza del cuore, diametro trasversale e longitudinale, rapporto tra lunghezza e diametro longitudinale, indice di forma, volume e resa. Si può concludere che i trattamenti a base di lettiera di pollame, sia in forma liquida che solida, hanno un potenziale per la crescita, la qualità e la produzione del cavolo.
