Discriminação, destruição e morte têm sido as lembranças do antropocentrismo. Uma vez que a humanidade se concedeu a si própria superioridade e domínio sobre a natureza e outros seres, abriu gradualmente o caminho para os seres humanos praticarem livremente o abuso sobre os animais e usarem indevidamente a natureza em benefício próprio. Como opensamento hierárquico se naturalizou através da sociedade humana, também afectou vários grupos de pessoas, tais como pessoas de cor ou deficientes: eram consideradas mais próximas dos animais e, portanto, mereciam ser maltratadas. Donna Haraway introduziu a sua noção de 'ciborgue' em 'A Cyborg Manifesto' (1985) para anunciar uma weltanschauung desconstrutiva contra o pensamento hierárquico. De acordo com a definição, a figura ciborgue é um corpo híbrido pós-humano que é intocável por dicotomias polares e é capaz de 'se tornar' animal ou máquina. Curiosamente, desde que as pessoas autistas que - com base na sua suposta 'deficiência' intelectual - há muito que foram exiladas da chamada sociedade normal, começaram a escrever autobiografias, a sua auto-imagem projectada como figura ciborgue atraiu ampla atenção: corpos que partilham afinidades próximas com animais, robôs, natureza e ambiente.
