Caesar’s Column is a dystopian novel written by Ignatius Donnelly in 1890. The story is set in the future where the world is controlled by a small group of wealthy and powerful individuals known as ''the oligarchy''. The protagonist of the story is a journalist named Marcus, who is part of a group of rebels fighting against the oligarchy’s oppressive rule. As the story progresses, Marcus and his fellow rebels discover a mysterious underground city called ''Caesar’s Column''. This city is home to a group of people who have managed to escape the oligarchy’s control and live in a utopian society where all individuals are equal and free. However, Marcus soon learns that the utopian society of Caesar’s Column is not as perfect as it seems. The people of Caesar’s Column are facing their own set of challenges and struggles, and the city is not as immune to corruption and power struggles as they had initially thought. The novel explores themes of social inequality, political corruption, and the struggle for freedom and equality. It is a thought-provoking and engaging read that challenges readers to question the current state of society and imagine a better future.''The most awful shrieks I ever heard broke from him; and the next moment his limbs seemed to lose their strength, and he fell in a heap on the floor; then he rolled over and over; mighty convulsions swept through him; he groaned, cried, shrieked, foamed at the mouth; there was a sudden snorting sound, and he stiffened out and was dead. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
