Eigentlich wollten die Touristen an Bord der kleinen Propellermaschine nur ein paar Urlaubstage in Costa Rica verbringen. Von ihrem Entführer erfahren die Überlebenden, dass ein zwielichtiger Pharma-Manager um jeden Preis ein geheimnisvolles Heilmittel gegen Krebs in seinen Besitz bringen will. Schon bald werden sie von angeheuerten Söldnern durch einen mörderischen Dschungel gehetzt. Auf ihrer Flucht geraten die untereinander zerstrittenen Touristen immer wieder in lebensgefährliche Situationen, in denen sich ihre Schwächen, aber auch ihre wahren Stärken offenbaren. Was keiner von ihnen ahnt: einer aus ihrer Gruppe spielt ein falsches Spiel... Fast sieht es so aus, als könnten sich die Gejagten auf die Forschungsstation Rara Avis retten. Doch dann droht tödliche Gefahr von einer ganz anderen Seite: der Vulkan Cacho Negro erwacht zu neuem Leben. Ein gnadenloser Wettlauf mit der Zeit beginnt!
