A collection of nine interweaving short stories, Brighton Beach Y2K portrays the community known as 'Little Odessa.' This corner of South Brooklyn became home to Russians escaping communism and, later, the collapse of the Soviet Union. With survivalist grit and dark humor, the imperfect dreamers of Brighton Beach Y2K carry a stubborn determination to achieve American success, sometimes at any cost. From prideful gangsters and con artists to war veterans and ambitious social strivers, all have second chances in life, in love, in places where the past is always present and the future is hopefully another day. 6
