Le fitte foreste del bacino del Congo sono considerate un 'hotspot' di biodiversità a livello globale, grazie alla loro presunta natura 'primaria'. Eppure queste foreste rimangono tra le meno conosciute al mondo e allo stesso tempo tra le più minacciate. Queste minacce non riguardano solo le foreste stesse e le specie che contengono, ma anche le società indigene (soprattutto Pigmei) e le loro conoscenze tradizionali. In questo contesto, abbiamo avviato un progetto di ricerca volto a comprendere meglio le relazioni uomo-foresta e le loro conseguenze sulla biodiversità vegetale, su scala ecosistemica, in un’area di foresta semidecidua densa della Repubblica Centrafricana.
