Is Pilibhit only the city of flutes and tigers?No.Pilibhit was the northern frontier of the ancient Panchala kingdom - the land where Draupadi called out to Krishna, where Arjuna’s Gandiva bow fell powerless, where Krishna himself wept witnessing the devotion of King Mayuradhvaja, and where the river Gomti is born - older even than the Ganga.On 4 June 2026, a lawyer’s car stopped nine kilometers before Pilibhit. A broken brick lay by the roadside. The story that brick told was 2,500 years old.Balai Khera - recorded in the 1909 District Gazetteer as 'the most important archaeological ruins in the district' - had been waiting 117 years for someone to come. Buried in that earth were Northern Black Polished Ware pottery of the Mahajanapada period, massive Gupta-era bricks, an intact ancient wall, and human bones of those who had lived here millennia ago.When NHAI machinery began cutting through that mound without archaeological clearance, one man stood up.
