The Baldwin Locomotive Works was an American manufacturer of railroad locomotives from 1825 to 1951. Matthias W. Baldwin, the founder, began as a jeweler, then moved to the manufacture of bookbinders’ tools and steam-powered cylinders for calico fabric printing. Baldwin’s workmanship was so excellent and his steam cylinder efficiency so great that he turned exclusively to steam engineering. This publication, 'Baldwin - King Of Locomotives', traces the beginnings, with many images, of the world’s greatest locomotive manufacturer, turning out over 70,000 units delivered around the world.
