La malattia delle cellule falciformi è una malattia genetica caratterizzata dalla presenza nei globuli rossi di un’emoglobina anormale chiamata emoglobina S, che è responsabile della loro falcidia. Questa malattia falciforme ostruisce i piccoli vasi, causando attacchi dolorosi chiamati attacchi vaso-occlusivi di localizzazione variabile. Questa malattia rimane fino a prova contraria la prima malattia genetica del mondo; nel Mali la prevalenza della malattia aumenta di giorno in giorno. In questo lavoro abbiamo voluto rilevare una possibile associazione tra l’iper-reticolocitosi e la comparsa di crisi vaso-occlusive nei pazienti falciformi.Abbiamo condotto uno studio descrittivo trasversale e analitico dei pazienti falciformi seguiti al CRLD dal 15 marzo al 31 dicembre 2010. Su 956 pazienti registrati, 271 sono stati inclusi nello studio. Alla fine di questo studio abbiamo trovato un’associazione statisticamente significativa tra l’iper-reticolocitosi e la comparsa di crisi vaso-occlusive.
