Introdução: A doença hemorroidária é uma patologia comum em todo o mundo. Algumas evidências empíricas sugerem que os hábitos alimentares desempenham um papel no desenvolvimento das hemorróidas. Os objectivos do nosso trabalho foram identificar os hábitos alimentares associados à doença hemorroidária. Tratou-se de um estudo caso-controlo que comparou um grupo de 30 doentes com hemorróidas com um grupo de controlo de 30 pessoas. Para cada grupo, foi efectuado um inquérito alimentar. Resultados: A maioria dos doentes apresentava obstipação crónica e o peso e o índice de massa corporal eram significativamente mais elevados no grupo com hemorróidas (p = 0,001). Verificou-se uma diferença significativa no consumo de alimentos condimentados (p = 0,004). A ingestão de fibras (g/dia) foi superior no grupo de controlo sem diferença significativa (p = 0,406). conclusão: A doença hemorroidária é influenciada pela obstipação com alguns hábitos alimentares.
