Como está em formato digital, pode ser interoperável e partilhado com outras organizações como laboratórios, clínicas, farmácias, e instalações de imagiologia médica para um melhor tratamento. Há duas principais normas indianas seguidas no nosso país - a Lei de Segurança da Informação Digital nos Cuidados de Saúde (DISHA) e o Plano Nacional de Saúde Digital (NHDB), juntamente com as normas ISO. A importância da biometria na sua manutenção, perspectivas regulamentares da EHR, e outras informações importantes relacionadas com a mesma, é claramente mencionada.
