Im aktuellen Kontext, der durch die Bevölkerungsexplosion und den steigenden Energiebedarf gekennzeichnet ist, ist die Analyse der Auswirkungen anthropogener Aktivitäten auf die Schutzgebiete, insbesondere den Agoua-Wald in Benin, von entscheidender Bedeutung. Der gewählte methodische Ansatz konzentrierte sich auf die Literaturrecherche und die Feldforschung. Die Analyse der Ergebnisse zeigt, dass die Landwirtschaft die Hauptursache für die Verschlechterung der Biodiversität im Agoua-Wald ist (70%). Es folgt der Einschlag von Energie- und Dienstleistungsholz mit 20% bzw. 10%. Diese Tatsache führte im Zeitraum 1994-2014 zu einer Veränderung der Flächen in jeder kartierten Pflanzenformation. So haben Galeriewälder (-0,31%), dichte Trockenwälder (-0,92%), lichte Wälder und Waldsavannen (-10,87%) sowie Baum- und Strauchsavannen (-8,63%) einen Flächenrückgang verzeichnet. Während Plantagen (4,78%), Mosaike aus Feldern und Brachland (15,88%) und dann Siedlungen (0,06%) einen Flächenzuwachs verzeichneten. Dieser Rückgang der Gesamtheit der natürlichen Formationen, der auf 70% geschätzt wird, führte zu einem Verlust an Lebensraum sowie Tier- und Pflanzenarten.
