A análise jurídica da união monetária em construção na África Ocidental é importante. Trata-se de uma análise comparativa das uniões monetárias na Europa e em África em particular, tomando como paradigma o regime jurídico dos seus bancos centrais e a teoria das zonas monetárias óptimas de Mundell, a fim de melhor compreender a união monetária da CEDEAO. Seguindo sempre uma abordagem prospetiva, o objetivo é destacar os potenciais obstáculos, nomeadamente políticos e jurídicos. Foram então propostas soluções para ultrapassar essas dificuldades.
