Das Eingreifen der unverwüstlichen Meta, die mit ihrer Rolle als Ehefrau und Mutter, die ihr die 'Beti'-Tradition zuweist, bestens vertraut ist, setzt diesem Albtraum ein Ende. Für die Autorin ist 'das Lachen eine spezifisch menschliche Reaktion, die verkümmert. Eine der Aufgaben der Literatur wäre es, das Lachen wieder aufleben zu lassen'.
