Per valutare il livello di consumo delle risorse naturali da parte delle attività agricole, di fronte alle sfide della crescita demografica, nel comune di Adjohoun, nel sud-est del Benin, è stato condotto uno studio. Il metodo utilizzato si basa sull’impiego di due indicatori ambientali sintetici: la biocapacità (BC) e l’impronta ecologica (EE). Questo studio ha mostrato che nel 2014 l’EE agricola del comune di Adjohoun era di 0,18 gha (ettaro globale) per individuo e la BC agricola individuale era di 0,69 gha. Questi risultati hanno anche mostrato che le condizioni biologiche ancora favorevoli di questo comune possono consentire di nutrire un numero di individui circa quattro volte superiore alla dimensione della popolazione nel 2014. Prendendo il 2014 come anno di riferimento, è stato stabilito che tra 54 anni (cioè nel 2068), l’EA agricola del comune di Adjohoun supererà la sua BC agricola. È quindi importante adottare misure lungimiranti per prevenire una situazione così preoccupante.
