En la presente obra ofrecemos a los lectores, un conjunto de opiniones sobre determinadas obras de un grupo selecto de escritores. A tal actividad, y dadas las características del contenido, le hemos asignado el nombre de acercamientos críticos. La muestra, elaborada aleatoriamente, es bastante diversa. Primero quisimos llamarla: de escritores nostramericanos. Luego, incluimos nombres famosos, como los de Mario Vargas Llosa, Carlos Fuentes, Elena Poniatowska, Isabel Allende, otros un poquito menos famosos, como los del colombiano Gustavo Bolívar Coronado, el cubano-norteamericano Armando Lucas Correa, nuestro exalumno de bachillerato, Karl Krispin, las estadounidenses Sonia Nazario y Harper Lee y las escritoras afronorteamericanas Toni Morrison y Maya Angelou. Por este hecho, cambiamos el nombre, a escritores americanos. En un tercer momento, quisimos incluir a dos Premios Nobeles: Orhan Pamuk y Kazuo Ishiguro, poco leídos en Hispanoamérica. Igualmente, agregamos a la escritora china Lisa See, y a los venezolanos Miguel Utrera, Lubio Cardozo, Luis Britto y Armando Hernández. En consecuencia, el calificativo de los autores ha quedado simplemente como escritores.
