Solution Focused Brief Therapy popularly called SFBT is a psychotherapeutictechnique that diverts the attention to solutions from the causes of the problem. Thetherapy mainly progresses on the basis of an optimistic approach and is based on thepremise that individuals are equipped with skills to solve their problems. The therapylooks at the individual as a rational being who can re-channelize his resources to solvethe problems. The therapist helps the individual in need, to change his perspectivefrom the problem to focus on the solution. Recognizing the need for economical andtime saving therapy, Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg from Milwaukea developedSFBT in the early 1980s at the Brief Family Therapy Centre in Milwaukee, Wisconsin(de Shazer, 1982, 1985, 1988; de Shazer, Berg, et al., 1986).
