This study is mainly concerned with passive constructions as one of the syntactic devices. Traditional grammarians such as Jesperson, kissing, Postma, and Curme have examined the active-passive relationship. One can notice an unmistakable formal approach in their works, which gets formalized at the hands of the transformational grammarians. But at the same time, they are also guided by notional criteria, for example, when they attempted to classify different types of passives.
