This story of William Effingham Lawrence, Tasmanian pioneer, and his family, is the completion of a sixty-five year life journey. The journey began with my father in the 1950s regaling me with stories of his great-grandfather closing his business in London, England, loading his family and goods onto his 71 ton cutter and embarking on a nine month voyage to Van Diemen’s Land, arriving in February 1823. This sparked a deep-seated abiding interest in the history of our family which has led to contact with many interesting people in many parts of the world who have a common interest in our family heritage. The early chapters cover the origins of the family and the years spent in North America. Chapter 4 is the life and times of William Effingham Lawrence, the subsequent chapters are devoted to each of his offspring, and the final chapters cover other items of family interest. Inclusion of extensive references, cross-referencing within the book, and a comprehensive index are changes since the 1973 edition.
